Cut-Out Animation Process

Debrief To make a cut-out animation including lip syncing, with the theme sea shanty. Planning The Sea Shanty we chose to lip sync and animate to is Derby Ram  from Assassin's Creed IV. We then moved onto creating characters and backgrounds. Here are the following in order of who made them. Fiona Tyron Michael Katie Storyboard After choosing the song and creating our characters, Tyron had drawn out the rough storyboard below for us to follow during filming.  Filming After printing off our characters in A3 we had decided to blue screen the filming process as the backgrounds could not be printed big enough. Editing After filming, the footage was taken by Fiona who was in charge of putting the backgrounds into our footage with blue screening. Then it went over to Tyron, who put in the soundtrack to match up with the animation lip syncing. Cut-Out Animation Research

What is cut-out animation?  It is a technique used in animation that uses materials that were "pre-cut" in preparation of using it for animation purposes. These cut-outs are used to be moved around frame by frame to create that illusion of movement. A common practice of preparing a character for a cut-out animation is by drawing out the limbs and then cutting them out then later on joint up to a pivot with usually a pin to allow the character's limbs to move around.  A perfect example of a person who has worked on such techniques is Lotte Reiniger. She was a German film director who specialised in silhouettes and cut-out animations. Her best known film is "The Adventures of Prince Achmed, 1926".  There are a variety of materials you can use to make cut-out animations ranging from paper, cards, stiff fabrics and more. The backgrounds can also be utilised so that the cut-out characters can interact with it. Backgrounds can be more than just drawn images, they cou

Groups Ideas for the theme "attraction" Fiona : Katie : The attraction between bees and flowers - a bee is so attached to a flower it refuses to go home, because of this it ends up dying within the flower. The death of the bee causes the flower to grow more beautiful. Michael :  Two suns are attracted to each other and end up colliding and destroying the solar systems they own. Tyron : We could use a fly to go through computer screens and thus each others story, so we can all work together. We ended up agreeing Tyron's method of getting around not seeing each other due to lock down, with our own mini stories, and decided to work on our own mini story boards separately, we have not decided completely what the order is but it is likely that Katie's bee dying in the flower for the story to end. Showcasing the initial storyboard's we all made below - this is not in the decided order of how the story will carry out. Fiona's Storyboard Katie's Storyboard Michael

Made between 1923 and 26 in Potsdam Germany • She's produced unique silhouette films. After producing Prince Achmed, she has made over 40 films all using different variations of the same technique. • She chooses a character and finds a way to fit them into the story. • She goes through concepts as to how the character would look like then puts them through a storyboard sequence • Once she decides on what the character would look like, she starts to draw on black cardboard, paper and other cards and cuts them out • She draws and cuts out limbs separately and the amount of drawings/separate pieces vary to how much movement a character will do. • Small holes are pierced in relevant points and will be joint together with small wire hinges.
